Everytime I hear someone say that they're never going to make it to the place they dream about, it disheartens me, and mostly when it comes to paintball. We are so lucky to be a part of a sport where the peiple still have a voice and the ability to change it from the inside out. That goes for anyone person who wants to make a difference.
When it comes to sports like baseball., basketball, and hockey they have been so vastly developed with advertising, polotics, ect. that the average individual has little to no impact in the over all picture.
Sure, paintball may be small, and needs to grow... But if you have goals here, do them now! Theres no time like the present. Nothing good ever happened to anyone who just sat and waited for it to be handed to them. And nothing ever changes for the better without strong willed people to drive it.
With the lesser political influence in the sport, just about anyone can go out and impress the right people and land a great deal of respect from pros, industry leaders and the likes. This is just how it works when you have something still in the developing stanges, in any case! And even so, don't be too overly envolved in trying to impress those on the way out, because there is alway another generation about to step in for tomorrow.
Primarily I'm ranting about this because I just came across the fact in my mind, that over the past year my life has been turned into everything and more than I had ever hoped it to be. World Cup really painted this picture very clearly. I've basically come from no where in paintball and being no one in paintball, to having a name, a face and a reputation that alot of paintballers are aware of. Not saying everyone, but quite a few.
Its kind of started to bother me all at the same time. Locally I see ballers getting out and grinding it out every weekend, and I can see they have what it take to go to the next level and be someone in the paintball industry. Yet their own disbelief in the paintball community leads to their own dead end in the industry.
I've heard it too many times "Manitoba paintball is going no where, I'd never make it anyway." When we've been cut from the same cloth. All paintballers in general actually, when you think about it. Just some finish the ends and others, not so much.
You control your destiny, if you want something DO IT NOW!
